Photography and the zen of the still image

The still image can lead us into a kind of zen awareness of other realms because, despite our insistence often to the contrary, the image we see is not reality. It is a mediated version of the photographer’s experience, captured forever as a single image or series of images. Because so many of us are conditioned to the ‘quick fix’ of daily life, we don’t often spend enough time taking in the image in the first place,

My advice to the uninitiated, turn off that TV, video or DVD and give the still photograph a moment of your time. You may just get in touch with your inner eye!
